Anyone else had this? Everyone in our studio has had it today, looks like this:

"Hello Dave, I'm heading to the UK sooner than you might think. Dexter"

Any ideas what its for or who its from?

    Dexter, maybe?
  3.
Dexter, (the TV show) is coming to the UK soon, (on one of the Sky channels). Promo for that?
  4.
Its just strange as they were all targeted by name and we all got them!

    Anyone else?

Quite probable. I saw an ad yesterday. FX are just about to start running season 1.

Wow, spam text messages using your name, that's great news.

  7.

    Hello Dave

  8.
I got the same thing - stumbled across this via google - yesterday. No return number or anything.

The Dexter series seems a good explanation - though how they got hold of my number ... It sent a shiver of paranoia through me.
  9.
I'm enjoying Dexter - downloaded the first series a few weeks ago.
  10.
yeah watched it for the first time last night - looks goood!
  11.

first episodes of series 2 are great.

  12.
they got caught by my rss feeds, and I watched the first one before realizing the series isn't starting for months - someone leaked them i think?
  13.

yeah - going to be a long time - mid sept i think.

That's the problem with pre-air episodes. I watched a pre-air of episode 1 of series 3 of Weeds last night and it was fucking excellent. It wouldnt suprise me if these pre-airs were actually seeded by the tv companies themselves to build up anticipation of the series... mind you, that was be pretty forward looking of them based on previous actions.

Reply from FX UK about the text message. Surely this isn't legal?

"The text message you received was part of an internet viral campaign for our newest show Dexter. However it was not us who sent you the text but one of your friends. We do not have a database of viewer phone numbers. The text message went along with a piece on the net that you can then send on to other people you know. If you go to www.icetruck.tv you will see the page that one of your friends has filled in to send you that message. Therefore I suggest you have a word with anyone who knows your mobile number and see who sent you this message. For the record we did not make a record of any phone numbers used in this campaign."

Mind you, am enjoying series 1 of the programme - and similarly caned the first four eps of Season 3 Weeds (a superlative among its genre). Will have to wait a month or more for episode 5. Sigh. My own fault. Never had enough restraint with Weed(s) ...
